mobile keep in touch

concept:
continuation of the 'keep in touch' idea, however instead of tactile-interfaces based on architectural surfaces (wall), the idea here is to create an intimate interface for the mobile context.

this idea can follow two paths: retrofit existing mobile devices OR envision and design a device from scratch....both have advantages/disadvantages. At any rate, the guiding strategy is to invert the paradigms associated with mobile devices in order to open up a design space for more interactivity, which is important for emotional and intimate designs because ubiquity and universality erodes the emotional significance. one example is, the phone is for 'talking', so in order to open up the space for tactility, make a phone that the physical interactivity only works when there is no sound....

sketch1 >> direct transfer of design...touch blurry body to reveal features. this design builds on two research efforts: the [pixel-shadow] so that a small screen is also a touch surface, and the [under-control] design of placing the touch surface behind the display surface....this way there is no modification to the camera placement on phones....or have camera on a rotating mechanism...

sketch2 >> removable screen with embedded sensors...the idea is that the phone remains a phone until you remove the screen which activates touch + motion sensors to enable tactile and physical interactions. the idea is, the phone is mundane until you remove the screen which disables the typical use of the phone (talking and phone-grasping) and opens up the space for playful interactions between two people.

removable screen which becomes interface between two people

sketch 3 >> maybe the phone has a really sensitive microphone and speaker that can only listen to soft sounds, so people have to whisper to communicate.....

sketch 4 >> blowing-a-kiss gesture causes the other screen to jump/move or change shape.

sketch 6 >> shape changing.... gestures, like blowing a kiss, caressing an image, changes shape
